Community Tuesday | JRE-Chef Alfred Prasad Shares His Heartfelt Cooking
Last week, JRE-Chef Alfred Prasad led a very special session of the Man With a Pan cooking club, organized by Age UK Richmond at the ETNA Community Centre. With warmth and generosity, Chef Alfred taught a group of men over 55 how to prepare a delicious and fragrant Kerala Chicken Ishtew, a traditional South Indian stew. The day was not only a cooking class but also a space to share, laugh, learn, and connect through the power of food.
This wasn’t Alfred’s first time supporting this wonderful initiative. Last December, he also led a session where the group cooked a flavorful Chicken Biryani, another dish rich in taste and tradition. His involvement reflects the spirit of JRE: cooking with meaning, approachability, and deep humanity.
Man With a Pan is a monthly activity designed to combat loneliness and promote wellbeing among older men through cooking. For the participants, cooking alongside a JRE chef was an enriching and inspiring experience.
Alfred’s participation shows how gastronomy can go beyond professional kitchens to become an act of care, community, and connection.
