Destination Alsace, France

Premium

Alsace is the region of France with Germanic roots. It is located on the left bank of the Rhine, between the river that forms the border with Germany and the Vosges mountain range. To the north and east, it borders Germany; to the south, Switzerland; and to the west, Lorraine and Franche-Comté.

Alsace Villages: Timeless Beauty Along the Wine Route

In Alsace, towns and villages compete in beauty and elegance. Half-timbered houses, colorful facades, flower-filled windows: let yourself be charmed by this typical setting!

Alsace wine is famous around the world, and viticulture is one of the region's most important economic activities. The Alsatian vineyards occupy the lower slopes of the Vosges mountains, between the mountains and the plains, and the wine-growing villages of Alsace are particularly renowned for their traditional half-timbered houses.

The village of Andlau is nestled in the charming Andlau Valley in the Pays de Barr. With its old houses, historic church, Renaissance fountain, and castles, the village is a popular stop on the prestigious Alsace Wine Route.

A Celebration of Timeless Gastronomy

A land of culinary delights, Alsace has something for every taste! Whether you're on the go, sitting down to a meal, sharing the pleasure or enjoying it solo, discover a wide range of traditional specialties!

Flammekueche
Flammkuchen continues to bring people together with its simplicity and taste. A traditional dish for epicureans, a gratin for gourmands, flammkuchen is eaten with your fingers in an authentic winstub.

Choucroute garnie
Authenticity in a single dish. Local products slowly marinated in a terracotta pot to bring back the flavors of yesteryear. Just like Alsace itself, choucroute is generous and satisfies both plates and appetites!

Kougelhopf
Whether sweet or savory, baked in a traditional ceramic mold, Kougelhopf remains a unique specialty. A staple of every Alsatian meal, it brings tradition and sweetness to the table.

Prestigious Alsace wines
The fruit of an exceptional terroir, Alsace wines offer an incredible range of aromas and flavors. Thanks to its excellent geographical location, the Alsace vineyards produce wines with aromas that are renowned worldwide. The exuberant nature, privileged climate, and terroirs of exceptional geological diversity offer a range of incomparable wines.

To preserve this richness, the Appellations d'Origine Contrôlées (AOC) impose strict and rigorous rules. This quest for authenticity is also reflected in the commitment of Alsatian winegrowers to respecting nature: it was in 1925 that the first Alsatian estate embarked on biodynamic viticulture!

Explore the Hidden Treasures

Andlau is a wine-growing town that is home to many treasures, including its abbey church, castles, picturesque streets, and heritage interpretation center. It's well worth a visit!

To begin this charming visit, head to the Kastelberg gazebo in the heart of the vineyards and the grand cru of the same name. It's an ideal photo spot to discover at sunrise or sunset! Discover a village nestled in the heart of the mountains with narrow, winding streets organized around two majestic churches and Renaissance-inspired buildings.

Here are the must-see attractions so you don't miss anything during your visit to Andlau:

  • The Abbey Church of Sainte Richarde, a jewel of Romanesque art. Don't forget to visit the crypt to discover the legend surrounding this building and the village.

  • Les Ateliers de la Seigneurie, a modern museum where you can discover Alsatian heritage with all your senses.

  • Richemond Park, the perfect place for families. Heritage enthusiasts should head to the Witches' Tower, a former prison.

A Land of Fortresses

In Alsace, you can step back in time by discovering exceptional structures and sites.

Designed to protect towns and villages, these splendid structures have become places for sharing and meeting: castles, fortified cities, towns and villages with surprising heritage, etc.

All it takes is a step, a path, a ruin standing on the horizon for the magic to happen.  Alsace, covered with deep forests and steep ridges, hides one of its most beautiful treasures: more than 80 castles, silent guardians of a flamboyant past. Some are still standing, proudly restored, while others reveal their romantic silhouettes, overgrown with moss and secrets.

Here, visiting a castle in Alsace is much more than an activity: it is an immersion into another time.
